Colonel North Mines & Railway Company 01.11.1899 100 shares No. 65401-65500   The company founded in 1899 took over all properties from the Grubb's Company and the Colonel North Mining Company. The new company consisted 200.000 shares of 10/s each. Object of the company was mining, development of their properties and extending the new company's railway to the Comstock District.
Commercial Bank of Tasmania 15.01.1886 85 shares      The Commercial Bank of Tasmania Limited was established in Hobart Town in June 1829 during a pastoral boom. With sound management, the bank made good progress. Banknotes were issued from branches in Hobart Town and Launceston. Notes issued before 1900 show the bank's title as Van Diemen's Land Commercial Bank. The bank survived for 92 years before being absorbed by the English, Scottish & Australian Bank Limited in 1921, now a part of the Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited.
High School of Hobart Town ca. 1847 1 share No. 113   The High School was founded in 1848 by a group of leading Presbyterians and Free Churchmen. A grant of land on the domain was received from the crown and a building was begun in 1848, costing about $3600. The school opened in 1850 and 56 boys were enrolled. In 1857 Rev. R.D.P. Harris took up the appointment of Rector and remained until 1885, leasing the school from the shareholders from 1862. In 1885 the rights were handed over to Christ College and the building sold to the University of Tasmania in 1892.
Hobart Steam Navigation and Trading Company 11.04.1885 8 shares No. 49-56    Formed in Hobart in 1883 to operate between Tasmania and other Australian ports, the Company was acquired by the Union Steam Ship Co of New Zealand in 1891. Operates the steamer "WAKEFIELD"  and "AMY".
Launceston Gas Company 14.06.1859 1 share No. 2007   The Launceston Gas Company was formed in 1858 with an initial Capital of 30,000 at the Cornwall Hotel. Despite being a private company, was run as a public utility. Gas was manufactured from coal at the company's site in Launceston's Esplanade. Its initial purpose was to provide street lighting, but following the introduction of hydro-electricity in 1895 the company diversified into gas for heating and cooking purposes. Since 1988 when the company was sold to Boral, all gas is imported from the mainland.
Tamar Bank 01.09.1835 1 share No. 172   The Tamar Bank opened for business on January 1st 1835 and ceased operation on 30th April 1838, when it was absorbed by the Union Bank of Australia, re-opening the next day as the first branch of the newly formed bank. The Union Bank merged with the Bank of Australasia in 1951 to form the A.N.Z. Bank Ltd..
Tasmanian Main Line Railway Company 187... 6% Debenture Stock Certificate for ...₤    Unissued, Registered London The (British) company built the railway between Hobart Town and Launceston from 1873 until 1876, with the Tasmanian government undertaking to pay the interest on the required loan and funding this from general revenue as it was considered to be of benefit to the whole colony. On 13 March 1876 trains began running into Launceston. The Main Lines development did not go smoothly. The prolonged contractual dispute with the company was not fully settled until 1 October 1890, when it was absorbed by the Tasmanian Government Railways.

Zeehan & North Dundas and Mount Read Tramway Company 30.09.1891 1 share No. 28   Founded in 1891 with an initial capital 2000 increased in Februray  1892 to 10.000 by the issue of 160 new shares.  The plan was a railway or tramway construction from Zeehan to North Dundas and Mount Read but the company wasn't very successful and was liquidated in March 1893.
